SATURN IN ARIES: THE ART OF DEVOTIONAL EAGERNESS
the art of devotional eagerness
Saturn famously ate his children - in part because he's a control freak and didn't want to be overthrown by them, but also because he likes to take time to digest things. It’s a graphic metaphor, but in order to build substantial forms, Saturn makes us linger on the gritty textures of our creations...one bite at a time. Which brings us to the complexities of Saturn moving into Aries, a sign that does not chew its food. Fueled by enthusiasm, Aries rushes into things without thinking about consequences - creating a lot of indigestion.
This mismatch is why Aries is a place of Fall or Debilitation for Saturn. Aries can impatiently fast forward and miss essential Saturn plot points, while Saturn can make Aries feel like things will take too long and so, why start? This on-again-off-again throttle, can be frustrating.
Yet, when I think of Saturn in Aries, I think about the triumphs of adolescence. As teenagers, we vacillate between insecurity and reckless bravery. With heroic hormones, we fling ourselves into risky behavior...smoking cigarettes, making prank calls or having awkward sex for the first time. Saturn in Aries demands self-initiation through new experiences, so that we can prove to ourselves that a limitation or fear isn't real.
All this is to say: a new cycle is beginning. You may feel like something isn’t working anymore, perhaps the structures that have authority over your life have crystalized and you are having to look beyond them, in the same way a teenager seeks something beyond what their parents (or society) has imagined them to be. Perhaps we will all experience a sort of second puberty and reconsider the question: Who am I ? How do I be in the world in a way that makes me feel alive? As a Mars ruled sign, this means taking responsibility for what really excites you, and working with Saturn to build the inner-authority and self approval to pursue it.
Some inspiro of people with Saturn in Aries in their charts, whom have pioneered new forms of writing, singing and seeing for others: Hunter S. Thompson, Evel Knivel, Tina Turner, Kathleen Hannah, LL Cool J…
In this way, Saturn in Aries is punk AF, often carving out its own path - a path that doesn't plan too far ahead. This placement stays present, bricolages one brave act to the next and consolidates their efforts along the way. Saturn in Aries is the art of devotional eagerness - it jumps into something, hits a wall, quickly recovers, hits another wall, finally puts on a helmet and re-pivots again.
And yet, this isn't any ol' Saturn entering Aries, it makes never-seen-before alignments with all the outer planets over the next few years, including a sloppy kiss with Neptune at 0 degrees Aries. As Saturn/Neptune builds in proximity, we may start to feel a remarkable mix of creative passion and elusive grief. Saturn and Neptune’s opposing qualities are a confusing jello match wherein any attempt Saturn makes to concretize Neptunes dreams, gets foiled by Neptune dispersing effects. Give space for your efforts to topple over drunk, dissolve, reform, dissolve again, reform like a loop of strings in a cats-cradle game...new shapes keep appearing depending on where you pinch and pull.
Basically, we are made to renew our structures while submitting to a structureless, confusing place that many of us don't really understand how to be a part of, yet. As we know, the floorboards of society are getting more and more weird. With Saturn in Aries, it may be tempting to find your footing alone, frozen with our hands tied up in string. Saturn in Aries can hold itself captive with self-reliant burn out. Yet, Neptune biding over the collective “greater will” will ask us to break the binding spell of hyper-independence and remember how interconnected our sovereignty is.
One last thing to note, is that the Saturn/Neptune combo is amplified only for Saturn’s first year in Aries, 2025/2026. Saturn only spends 3 years in a sign, while Neptune spends around 14 years. From Saturn's perspective, Neptune is a lingering NPC (Non-Playing Character), like in video games when you approach a mythic creature and essential clues about how to proceed through the game-world spill out of them. Neptune might be the key for Saturn to let go of self-judgment so that it can move through the rest of the zodiac with the right creative resources.
I wrote more on Saturn/Neptune here if you are interested. In the meantime, I wish all of you a steady arrival into all these new sky-changes that ultimately are asking us to collapse old rules so that we can reform the crystal. Saturn will just pop into Aries May 24 – Sept 1, 2025, before traversing back into Pisces. So we have the next three months to feel this out at first. Let me know what you begin to notice ! Saturn will officially take its longer journey in the rugged Aries realm on Feb 13, 2026 to solidify this new chapter.
